Students will create fraction books for halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and eighths. This will serve as a guiding tool for students when they are working with fractions.
Materials
Description of ActivityThe students will create a fraction book to help them understand fractions. This will be a useful tool for students to use when trying to figure out what fraction the need. It, also, gives students a way to visually see the fraction as well as in written form. Students will take a booklet and cut the dotted lines. Students will write what each part represents and well and the fraction written out.
Differentiating the LessonTo make this activity more challenging for students at different skill levels, you can provide students with other materials such as beads, coins, and shapes to give them more experience with creating fractions from different sets of objects.
AssessmentFormative: The teacher will observe students by asking students critical thinking questions to help think about the fraction books.
Summative: Students will turn in the booklet for the teacher to look over to make sure it is correct. The teacher will give the booklet back to students to use as a tool. |
